Tutorial: How to smooth a selection

1 December 2008

In this mini-tutorial you’ll learn, step by step, how to smooth a selection using the Quick cutout tool.

First, open Tools and Properties windows (Windows->Tools and Windows->Properties), then select the Quick cutout tool (keyboard shortcut: X) from Tools window. Properties window automatically updates its content.

Quick cutout properties window

Into Properties window there is a slider titled “Smooth Selection”. Moving its indicator from left to right will increase smooth level (N). Viceversa, moving it from right to left will decrease the value (B).

You can use the check button on the right to enable (disable) the smooth (CTRL + SHIFT + B).

Enabling this feature you will be able to improve your cutout, specially when the generated RealEdges are particularly jagged.

It’s hard to cut out…

19 September 2008

Sometimes, using photo-retouching softwares, I waste my time drawing lines to eliminate the background and to cut out images with my magic eraser tool. And sometimes, I cannot finish my work, because it is late or, above all, I am fed up with my  wonderful “magic” eraser tool.

So, I looked for something that does not get me angry, something easy to use. And I found Digipeeks, which is trying to make photo-retouching techniques better.

Now, we are working hard on a new version of the program Aerocut, that is an innovative photo-retouching program. Aerocut speeds up the process of background removal and we hope to improve it with a lot of new instruments, to make the work easier.

You can find the definitive version of Aerocut on Digipeeks’ website.

After the registration, it is downloadable for free. Try it and tell me what do you think about this software.
